Council

Haven Lurbiecki is a long-time Port Moody resident who was first elected to City Council in 2022. She is committed to building a livable community while preserving Port Moody’s natural spaces and small-city character. Her approach to local government emphasizes responsible planning, transparency, accountability, and meaningful engagement with residents.

Haven brings a background in public policy, environmental management, and research to her work on Council. She holds a Master’s degree in Resource and Environmental Management from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University. Her professional experience includes working as a senior policy analyst and running her own consultancy, with a focus on policy development and strategic analysis.

Before being elected, Haven was actively involved in local issues and municipal affairs, advocating directly to Council on matters of community concern. She volunteered on several City committees, including the Land Use Committee from 2021 to 2022 and the Parks and Recreation Commission from 2019 to 2022. During her time on the Commission, she was the lead author of two reports endorsed by Council that helped inform the City’s approach to parkland acquisition and becoming a more dog-friendly community.

Since joining Council, Haven has contributed to discussions and initiatives related to land use, housing, infrastructure, fiscal responsibility, public engagement, and park expansion. She has advocated for expanding Rocky Point Park and increasing public participation in decisions about growth and development. In 2025, she helped to found Port Moody Voice, the city's first municipal political party.

Haven lives in Newport Village with her husband, step-son, and dog, Ace. She enjoys exploring local parks and trails and spending time in the wilderness.

Alexandra was the first in her family born in Canada. Raised by a supportive family in the Tri-Cities, with no other relatives nearby, she learned to value the community around her and the importance of giving back. She decided early to become a Registered Nurse and attended Douglas College on a scholarship.

The pandemic hit just after she graduated, and her unit at Eagle Ridge Hospital became the COVID unit. Despite the upheaval, she actively contributed to quality improvement initiatives: streamlining supplies for staff caring for COVID patients, infection control to protect others on the unit, and UTI prevention. She later joined Acute Care for Elders, was sponsored for High Acuity training, and now works on the Monitored Care Unit.

Advocacy and continuous improvement are central to nursing, and Alexandra grew concerned about the toll preventable chronic conditions take on her community. Determined to help others, she earned a Master of Health Leadership and Policy in Clinical Education at UBC, aiming to design policies that empower people to stay healthy.

Port Moody has been home since 2020, and Alexandra stays involved locally, volunteering at the Crossroads Hospice Thrift Store and weekly board game nights. She has also volunteered with park associations and the Barnet Lions. She’s an avid reader who loves working with her hands, whether woodworking, sewing, or cooking, and learns as she goes. She’s lucky enough to have two cutie-cats and a husband who love her, if not her quirky playlists.

After graduating from SFU in 2000 with a joint major and co-operative education degree in Political Science, History and French, Kyla worked in corporate finance for 13 years for a number of private, publicly-traded and going-public businesses. After having her daughters in 2012 and 2014, she pivoted her career to focus on corporate and board governance. Since then, she has worked for an economic think tank, the City of Coquitlam, a regional civil construction company, and is currently the Board Lead for a national cancer non-profit. She also serves as a Board Director for Theatrix Youtheatre Society, a non-profit based in the tri-cities that is dedicated to providing performing arts education and experiences to youths.

Kyla and her family have lived in the Easthill/College Park neighbourhood of Port Moody since 2013. She actively gives back to her community and volunteers for a number of local organizations including the Rotary Club of Port Moody, Golden Spike Days, local school PACs, the College Park Community Association, Easthill Strata, and more.

Kyla is incredibly grateful to have earned the trust and support of Port Moody residents for election to a second term on Council. She loves Port Moody deeply, is an active advocate for animal rescue and adoption, and enjoys travelling with her daughters. She is always happy to connect for a coffee if you email her!

Paul has been a resident of Port Moody for 26 years. Paul is proud to have grown up in Port Moody and now he and his wife are raising their own family here. Paul and his wife Jackie are fortunate to have 3 wonderful kids.

Paul holds a degree in Economics from Simon Fraser University and is a Business Consultant, working with businesses in Port Moody and throughout the Lower Mainland. Paul brings a strong foundation in Economics and 20 years of business experience to the Council table.

Paul believes in giving back to our community through volunteer work and has coached youth sports, volunteered on local environmental issues and served as a Board Member for the Golden Spike Days Society.

In his personal time Paul enjoys spending time with family, playing sports and music with his kids, hiking and mountain biking, and enjoying all the amazing events we have in Port Moody like Golden Spike Days, Ribfest and the Summer Sundays Concert Series.

Amy is honoured to be a third-term city councillor. Her focus continues to be on integration of social connectedness, environmental protection and stewardship, poverty reduction, and affordable housing across the city. Some of her proudest accomplishments have been establishing well-being guidelines for all new developments, strengthening our tree protection bylaws and creating our urban forest management strategy, strengthening renter protections, and championing policies that have led to more affordable and rental housing for people from all backgrounds and walks of life. She also helped found the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility committee, the Tri-Cities Food Council, and has supported the creation and continuation of the Tri-Cities Rent Bank. Amy is passionate about listening to the community and building relationships across organizations and sectors to understand and fill gaps in support, strengthening our connections and resilience. She is also enthusiastic about learning new and promising practices to meet our collective goals for well-being. 

Amy holds a PhD in cancer research, has worked for the BC Centre for Disease Control on environmental health, and currently supports Fraser Health Authority as the Climate Change Lead for Population Public Health, focusing on supporting nonprofits and government partners protect vulnerable populations in the growing incidents of extreme weather we experience. She is a nationally recognized leader in her field.

She is also a bookworm and library lover, as well as an avid gardener (started the Port Moody Boulevard garden program with one of her best friends), and baker. She currently lives in Suter Brook with her cat, Orange George.

Callan Morrison was re-elected to Port Moody City Council for a second term in 2026 and is proud to be serving his community again. Having grown up in Moody Centre, attended Moody Middle and Port Moody Secondary, and lived in Port Moody for 27 years, Callan has deep roots in the community he serves. Before joining Council, he volunteered on six municipal committees between 2013 and 2022.

Callan graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2010 with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Communications. His background in automotive finance provided valuable experience in financial management, customer service, problem-solving, and teamwork. He later became a small business owner in the Tri-Cities, where he and his wife operated a retail store from 2018 to 2023. Their business received the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 Small Business of the Year Award. This experience continues to shape Callan’s commitment to supporting local businesses and recognizing their important role in creating vibrant communities.

Giving back has always been an important part of Callan’s life. He has coached lacrosse for 17 years, including 11 years in Port Moody, and has contributed to community events such as RibFest and Golden Spike Days. He has also supported local charities, sporting associations, and organizations including Looking Glass Foundation, Access Youth Outreach Services, Crossroads Hospice Society, Share Family Services, Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, and the Port Moody Lacrosse Association, as well as BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and Pink Shirt Day.

Callan looks forward to continuing to work with residents, local businesses, and fellow Council members to help shape Port Moody’s future and maintain the strong sense of community that makes the city home.

Peter Thomasen has called Port Moody home for nearly 28 years. Having grown up in the community, he has witnessed the city’s growth and transformation firsthand and has a deep appreciation for its history, character, and people.

Peter studied Criminology at Simon Fraser University and brings more than 20 years of professional experience in business, sales, marketing, and management. Throughout his career, he has managed multimillion-dollar budgets, worked with senior business leaders, and developed extensive experience navigating government relations and regulatory environments across Western Canada.

Community service has always been an important part of Peter’s life. He has contributed more than 6,000 volunteer hours, including 27 consecutive seasons coaching youth lacrosse in Port Moody. His volunteer experience also includes mentoring young people, supporting animal welfare organizations, and serving as a volunteer firefighter.

Peter’s commitment to public service is deeply rooted in his family. Both of his late parents served in law enforcement, including his father, who was Deputy Chief of the Port Moody Police Department. Their dedication to serving others helped shape Peter’s belief in the importance of giving back to his community.

Outside of his professional and community commitments, Peter enjoys spending time outdoors, connecting with friends and neighbours, and exploring Port Moody with his pug, Piper.

As a councillor, Peter is committed to thoughtful decision-making, responsible growth, transparency, and ensuring residents’ voices are heard. He believes public service is about listening, working together, and always putting the community first.
