Spring Safety Message from Fire Chief Darcey O'Riordan

As warmer weather approaches, NFPA & Port Moody Fire Rescue offers key tips to safely tackle spring cleaning!  The melted snow, budding tress, longer days:  they're all signs that the warmer months are fast approaching - and for many of us, these seasonal hallmarks are reminders to start spring cleaning in and around our homes.

As people power up their lawnmowers, rake up debris, touch up chipped paint, and take on myriad projects go get their homes and yards ready for the months ahead, following are six key practices to help minimize the risk of fires and associated hardzards:

  • Properly use and store gasoline
  • Carefully dispose of rags with paint and stain
  • Use/store flammable and combustible liquids with care
  • Inspect your BBQ to ensure it's in good working order
  • Keep debris will away from your home
  • Clean out your clothes dryer
