Marine Habitats and Boating

As we welcome the month of July in Port Moody, we encourage our residents and visitors to appreciate the diverse marine life in our shoreline parks, including our magnificent shorebirds and harbour seals.

At the same time, we would like to highlight the importance of safety and respect for the environment. Our mudflats can be unpredictable and dangerous, with depths reaching up to 8ft. They pose a significant risk if a person or a dog becomes stuck. Should you encounter such an emergency, please dial 9-1-1 and ask for Fire.

For boating enthusiasts, it's important to remember that anchoring in Port Moody Arm is strictly limited to the Designated Anchorage Area (DAA). If you're planning to stay overnight, you'll need to obtain a DAA Permit. We actively monitor and enforce these rules to ensure the safety and integrity of our waterways.

Also, our purple martin nest boxes, installed on marine pilings, are tended to by our dedicated volunteers. We kindly ask that all boaters, kayakers, and paddleboarders maintain a distance of at least 30m from these structures and do not touch the boxes.

Your understanding and respect for these guidelines will help us ensure the preservation of our beautiful marine habitats for future generations.
