While you're walking around Port Moody, you may notice that all intersections with signals now have pedestrian countdown timers and larger traffic signal displays. Our LED traffic signals last longer and consume less power.
Pedestrian countdown signals show how much time remains to cross the street. To help you cross safely, take the following steps:
- Look in all directions and start your crossing when the walking person light is on.
- As you cross at a normal pace, the flashing hand and countdown timer may start. This shows the amount of time you have to complete your crossing. Make sure you get to the other side before the countdown timer hits zero
- If you approach an intersection when the hand is flashing or steady, push the pedestrian button and wait for the next walking person light.
When you are driving you may notice our traffic signals are brighter and more noticeable. The City has just completed a 10 year initiative to upgrade all secondary traffic signal displays (the red, amber and green lights) from an 8” size to a larger more visible 12” size.
