economic developmentImaginative, adventurous even, Port Moody is creating a balance between growth and the community's cultural, environmental and heritage values.

At the crossroads

Port Moody is a distinct and charming community of about 33,000. Our service area is at the crossroads of a population of 350,000. Port Moody, connected by rapid transit, rail, major highways, and a deep-sea port, is only a 45-minute drive from two international airports and the Canada-U.S. border.

Port Moody's natural setting, residential and recreation opportunities and proximity to the nearby Simon Fraser University and Douglas College David Lam Campus, serve as magnets to attract a skilled labour force.

The City's economic development strategy supports a careful mix of residential, commercial, manufacturing, and business to maintain a diversified tax base while maintaining and cultivating new jobs through redevelopment.

Waterfront vision

Recognizing the inevitable shift away from our traditional heavy industry, the City is planning its long-term economic future around its bigger assets. For example, the waterfront economic vision document highlights a number of investment opportunities worth exploring.
